Dont leave your keys in your bike

...like I managed to do all day. Thank bollocks it's a secure compound!

Bike will now definitely have to have oil doodads this weekend; much greasiness to ensue, hence I may have to invest in greasiness or cakiness for other parts of the weekend. Perhaps a nice bit of plum tart? Plum season should be upon us....or cherries if not....dammit, I still need a good greengrocers......

Discovery

Always make sure you have enough flour for your butter when you intend to make crumble topping. Insufficient butter means that on rubbing in you will obtain a single large sticky mass rather than fine breadcrumbs.

Clearly this happened to me yesterday owing to a lack of flour - was sure I had a fresh bag somewhere, but clearly not! In the end my sticky mass was put to good use and went on top of the not-quite-crumble anyways; addition of lots of sugar has helped in this regard. It's more like a rich (very rich) pastry top, but lacks that crunch crumble-ness. At any rate, flour is on the shopping list.

Today at work is a day of lectures. I'm looking forward to it, since my own work is a bit tedious at the moment.

Therapy

Time for a little typing therapy, since I have a moment to spare!

Well, actually, it's not like I never have moments to spare; in fact, I make them for myself by managing to avoid doing those niggly jobs that I just dont want to do, viz. cleaning anything. But at the moment I feel in the mood for a bit of mental disconnection and exercise for my fingertips. In fact, it is more than a little strange that these days I can manage almost to touch-type, though not quite, and yet still not be able to do it when I actually have to. If I could indeed touch-type, then there'd perhaps be a much easier way to compose......though I do believe that we need to retain the word write in the lexicon, because I'm with the graphologists on this one (now that no-one actually has to learn to copperplate anymore).

Anyhow, this summer appears to be turning into the stuff-stuffed-in-a-tortilla summer, there being a large number of these things being consumed by myself in recent weeks. Can't get enough of the stuff, though this is without a lot of the fattening guacamole/sour-cream-type sauces that tend to go with this kind of food. Likewise a severe lack of anything remotely resembling chilli (I'll leave that to a certain P and his penchant for jalepenos). But it is an easy way to cut out heavy carbohydrates in your diet, since you fill up without needing a big plate of rice or potatoes or suchlike.....

Bank holiday was spent down in Brighton, and very relaxing. So relaxing that I have no desire whatsoever to return to work, and in fact am loathing it at the moment since one project is on the wind-down and I'm not warming to what is likely to be next, at least just yet. Just frustrating that the current one is going out the window, because there's some bloody decent work I've done on it and no way this is being recognised unless persons beyond my influence actually give me some results to deal with! Grrrr.....it seems to be a bit of a theme. Going to have to pitch some ideas of mine in the near future too.....not something I relish.

Still have not managed to change oil in bike; I know it will survive without a change just yet, but it's making me feel itchy about it, and not wanting to ride heavily till I've done it. Have to pull finger out, eh?

Other than that, not much to tell; play now finished, bit of a blast (though a bit of a miraculous recovery towards the end; it was a bit of state right up till opening night! I suppose 'tis par for the course).....on to the next one now, though of course it remains to be seen how I get involved. It's not till October, so we'll see if I have a lot or not so much free time of a Thursday.

Been plowing through my medicinal chemistry light reading, and it has been most fascinating. Almost enough to inspire me to do a bit more studying off my own bat, until I realise the price of adult education courses (THERE's a policy I can get on board with) and the fact that, since I'm totally in control of my own life, I have no time to do the leisurely studying that I used to. In fact, I have ever-growing respect for people who undertake higher and further education on a part-time basis, since you have to be that much more dedicated, and reading when tired only leads to rapid sleeping.....still, one of these days I'll add a third language to my bow, assuming I havent forgotten the second by then!

I know it's a bit of a whinge, since I never make the effort myself, but if anyone reading wants to come visit, I'd be more than grateful at the moment; though I do value my private space, the more private I am, the more likely I'll turn into Crazy Snake Man, which is the current end stop on the Jon-ster train line!

Ommmmmm.............

Just so you all know

Don't try and talk to me when I'm going to the loo. Ever. Hmmmkay?
