Weekend

It's funny the things that amuse me. One of the defining characteristics of the individual, perhaps, their personal sense of humour. So often people make comments that they think are hilarious, while those about them are smiling politely and looking at each other to ascertain that, no, they aren't crazy. Well, happens to me all the time. Maybe my sense of humour is particularly esoteric.

The story to tell is of an event that happened today. I've been out for a biking, since today has presented an opportunity to do so after the past weeks of mad rain and biblical storms. It has been very pleasant, all togged up in my kit and zooming along (I'll have to be careful I don't get overly confident). A nice tootle around west Surrah. Seems like a lot of people are having birthdays this weekend, since there were an number of balloons around and indeed, some floating about loose. These ones gave me a bit of a panic attack as I approached them at 70 (dunno why, it's only fucking balloons), but the car coming the other way ran over them in a chuckle-worthy explosion. Made me smile!

The rest of the weekend: Saturday morning was quite glorious, and I went to investigate the Lightwater butcher that has been recommended. And very nice it is too, a tightly run operation with a hand in prepared goods, cheese, jam and fish as well as the meat. I took some sausages and bacon, and in a fit of greed, a £10 leg of pork that is currently being cooked (:-). I'll have to be wary, otherwise I'll be shopping there far too much. I now absolutely require a greengrocers and a decent bakers, because nothing was more depressing than buying such lovely meat, with great advice from the butcher, good sign, than then going into battery-farming Sainsburys with no windows to buy my veg.

Good job I went out when I did, since it clouded in severely and there were stair-rods of rain. I spent the rest of the day indoors in Azeroth - quelle surprise - with a little break for some bangers and mash, and here I must confess to great culinary error. They were nice sausages, not great and slightly too well minced on the inside for my taste. But I managed to ruin them in the making of gravy. Always make your own, bloggardes, it's so easy. But, inspired by some very nice B&M I'd eaten recently, I decided to pep it up a bit with a bit of spice. I've got a large bag of dried red chillies, and put a very few, crushed up, into the sauce. It nearly blew my head off. I'll have to be veh-hry careful with them from now on, but at least they're going to last me for ages! Shame, since it overpowered everything else, and it was otherwise very good dinner. Never mind. More mash to come during the week, so I'll get my dose of happy-potatoes.

Other than this, a pretty slow weekend with the laundry and the slight tidying, and that's about it. Back to work tomorrow for the free breakfast - god bless corporate spending when I'm on the receiving end, otherwise it's a flagrant waste - and more of the chemistry lark.

See y'all!
